I don’t have much to say about the Triple this year other than it was a great day. Perfect weather and no mechanicals! It was painful, but that’s the nature of Type 2 fun. I rode with my neighbor, Josh (albeit not for long as he’s a very fast climber) and John from Arizona. My lovely wife, Meg, graciously crewed me for the day and met John and I at Loveland Basin with ice cold Cokes, Pringles, Nutella wraps, bananas and Skratch Labs mix. It was tough this year as I didn’t really do a lot of structured training leading up to the event and there were times where I seriously considered pulling the rip cord. I’m glad I didn’t as I cut about 90 minutes off my total time from 2018. My moving time was only around 15 minutes better and I definitely set quite a few PR’s along the course. Unfortunately setting PR’s along with limited structured interval training led to some serious bonks and general disillusionment along the way.
I rode my Cervelo C3 and had my new GoPro Chesty harness on the whole day. It was surprisingly comfortable for the 9+ hours.
I pray whoever had to be airlifted off the top of Vail Pass survived.
The best video IMO below is the Loveland Pass descent. I need to go and practice to be more “successful at life” now…
